Community Informatics

We live in a rapidly changing world, with technologies and organizations ever more in flux, and humanity facing a growing number of very serious social, economic, and environmental crises. The field of Community Informatics has significant potential to increase the necessary collaborative problem solving capacity of society.

Research Meets Practice

Still, as acknowledged by leading bodies like the Community Informatics Research Network, there is an unfortunate gap between the activities of academic researchers and practitioners.

Their work needs to intertwine: on the one hand, generating innovative research ideas about the potential of online technologies is essential for developing more effective socio-technical systems. Without the test of practice, on the other hand, many theories remain conceptual only without being usefully applied and refined in the real world.

Mission

Old ways of doing business no longer work. It is my strong belief that community informatics principles and practices can significantly improve collaboration in communities within and across organizations.

The mission of CommunitySense is to use state-of-the-art insights from both thinkers and do-ers in the emerging field of community informatics for the benefit of collaborative communities in education, research, government, non-governmental, and business domains.
