Welcome to CommunitySense
At CommunitySense, I help organizations, networks, and communities see the big picture of collaboration—revealing hidden connections and opportunities for collective action. Using my CommunitySensor methodology, I not only map living collaboration ecosystems that span communities and organizations, sectors, and regions—I guide you in reading these maps to find collaborative common ground and practical directions for joint action.
What sets CommunitySensor Apart
- Participatory Mapping & Collaborative Sensemaking: I don’t just produce maps together with you—I help you interpret and use them for real-world action.
- Reveal Hidden Connections: My maps uncover invisible links and opportunities that traditional methods miss.
- Bridging Research and Practice: Every project is grounded in decades of Community Informatics research, yet designed for practical, immediate use.
- Ecosystems Focus: I map living collaboration ecosystems that span communities and organizations, sectors, and regions.
About the founder: Aldo de Moor
As founder and owner of CommunitySense, I bring over 25 years of experience bridging theory and practice in Information Management and Community Informatics. I received my Ph.D. from Tilburg University in 1999, focusing on the evolution of socio-technical systems in online communities and networks. I served as assistant professor at Tilburg University’s Department of Information Management (1999–2004), and as a senior researcher at the Semantics Technologies and Applications Research Lab of the Free University Brussels (2005–2006). Since 2007, I have led CommunitySense, helping organizations map, understand, and strengthen their collaboration ecosystems.
From Community Informatics to Collaboration Ecosystems Cartography
CommunitySense was founded in 2007 to address a critical gap: while technology and community development each had their champions, few addressed the challenge of weaving them together to truly see, understand, and act on the complex, multi-stakeholder collaborations that drive real impact when addressing wicked problems.
This led to the creation of CommunitySensor—a methodology that integrates my research and practice to chart and better understand living collaboration ecosystems. I map the—sometimes vast—territories of collaboration, and, crucially, help clients read and make sense of these maps so they can build collaborative common ground and take effective, collective action.
With a focus on what I call “collaboration ecosystems cartography,” I continue to develop and apply this unique approach to help multi-faceted, often loosely defined stakeholder networks navigate complexity and achieve impactful, collective outcomes.
